Talca is a small city 3 hours south of Santiago. Zoe has been teaching english at the university of Talca for 3 months. The university is a nice new campus just outside the town. The town itself is similar to other small Chilean cities with a busy town centre and lots of housing on the outskirts. Like most other Chilean towns the busses drive at 150mph, in addition to pedestrians, there are also plenty of horses and carts to dodge. There�s a really cool salsa club called �Pura Candela� in town and some nice small bars and restaurants. We went to the salsa club on a Wednesday night as there is a cuban chap who teaches salsa.
All the locals are really into salsa and every other Chilean song has a special dance which you have to learn. This becomes much easier after a few bottles of the local beer.
There�s not much to see in Talca apart from some nice shops and bars but its a good base to explore other parts of Chile as it is in the Central Valley. There are apparently some good vineyards around the area which we�re hoping to have a look at. Theres a MacDonalds and 2 cinemas, I�m trying to persuade Zoe to go and see �Red Dragon� but she�s being a big girl.

One of the highlights of Talca was seeing a strip show put on by the university to celebrate its birthday. I had to go along with some of Zoes students as it was a boys only session and then Zoe went to a girls only session later the same night. After the girls session everybody was invited back into the club for a big disco.
For Halloween we had a bbq at the pension, followed by a trip to the local club ... Kamikhaze (complete with life size Japanese aeroplane sticking out of the roof). Its a good club, everybody was dancing and we drank Pisco Sour all night. We returned to the pension to find the bbq was just finishing, but as it was still early (3am) we were asked to a local karaoke bar where I sang Simon and Garfunkel very badly. We eventually got home at 6am. On Saturday we slept in and in the evening I finally persuaded Zoe to come and see Red Dragon with me. On Sunday we took a bus to a lake �Lago Colbun�, its an hour outside Talca its a huge lake with amazing views of the mountains, we had a long walk and a picnic before getting a taxi back to Talca.
